The Debut of “Little Kaboom”

By Justin Strycharz

Alex “Little Kaboom” Jimenez is slated to make the all important transition from the amateur ranks of boxing to the pros on November 28th at the Spotight29 Casino for the ‘Clash of the Gladiators’ event. As his name suggests, this eighteen year old Bantamweight carries some pop in his punches.

Like many boxers, Alex grew up in a family full of fighters. His father was a kick boxer, and so is his older brother. Alex and his twin brother, who also boxes, were born premature and, at first, his father was hesitant to teach them because of their size. But Alex’s mother convinced his father to give him and his brother a chance. At four years old, Alex was shown how to throw punches, and by age ten, he was fighting his first amateur bout and he hasn’t taken a backward step since. Alex considers himself a boxer first, never throwing a punch he thinks won’t either land or set up something to land. That is something that is easier said than done when you carry the kind of punching power Jimenez has, but his patience has paid off in the past and should serve him well as a pro too. For example, when Alex was sixteen he fought in the ‘Desert Showdown’ amateur boxing tournament (also at the Spotlight 29 Casino) and KO’d both of his opponents, winning in the 95lb. weight class.

Alex reflects, “I wanted to go out there and win, I went out there to see what they had and made them miss like usual and I seen punches that I could easily dominate and I took ‘em.”

Alex has a rigorous training regimen, claiming to jog five to seven miles every day, only to go home and complete a special workout routine used by all of the fighter’s in the Jimenez’s family. I pressed Alex for specifics, but he wanted to keep the techniques a secret to all his future opponents. Another weapon “Little Kaboom” has, he says, is his fair skin, “…they don’t expect I can fight. They always think it’s gonna be easy because I’m fair skinned…it always turns out a lot harder than they think.” Jimenez has set the bar high for himself, as well, “I’ve always wanted to go on and make myself one of the champions. I’ve always wanted to step it up.” He later stated ,”If I can get five fights a year I’ll do it!”

One thing is for sure, Alex is very confident in his boxing ability and though he does admit to having nerves going into his fight, he also feels ready. He has sparred as many as eight rounds without headgear in preparation for his four rounder on the 28th so he’s definitely in top shape for what he hopes to be the beginning of great things to come.

The ‘Clash of the Gladiators’ event is the debut event for Steve Quinonez’s promotional company Champion Promotions and is a split Boxing/MMA event. The card features undefeated Michael Franco (15-0 10KOs) of Riverside, CA taking on Kermin Guardia (37-10 21KOs) on the boxing end of things. All said and done, there will be a total of six bouts: three boxing and three MMA. For tickets or more information on the event, contact Champion Promotions at: (760)-835-3234 or visit: www.spotlight29.com

This is StrikeHearts saying, “If it’s not boxing, I don’t care.”
